Enclosed-
In the United States, there are approximately 6.5 million companion animals entering animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, 3.3 million are dogs. This series will take a look into some South Florida animal shelters, focusing mainly on dogs. I’ve had a dog every day in my life for the past 15 years, so they are very important to me.
The motto that got me to thinking about this as a series is: “Adopt don’t shop”. I’ve had 3 dogs in my lifetime and all of them were adopted from the same shelter. Each year, approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized. The main reason animals in shelters are euthanized is solely because they weren’t adopted fast enough. The goal at the end of this series is to spread the idea that adopting and saving a dog is much more rewarding than “shopping” for a dog.

A Look Into the Mind-
As a psychology major, I’ve always been interested in the ways the mind works. Mental disorders are one of the main things that have interested me in psychology, and I wanted to portray those in my series. Many people don’t see psychological disorders as actual illnesses. This is something I want to bring attention to with my series.
These photos portray a variety of the most known mental illnesses. This is a look inside the mind of the people who have these disorders. Some of the disorders I have covered in my series include anxiety, eating disorders such as bulimia and anorexia, schizophrenia, and multiple personality disorder. My end goal for this series is to bring awareness to the importance of mental health by bringing to life the views and feelings people with these disorder have.
